Gaia revisited

Sunset clouds, digital photography, Nov. 2008

Earth's atmosphere is a most rare event in Nature, absolutely unlikely to be a product of hazard. Stable in composition and temperature for eons, it keeps a wonderful balance of its components that makes possible all physical and chemical transactions that life needs. It behaves with homeostatic moves to maintain stable thousands of "life constants", as any living organism does... Just a slight variation of 3% or 4% in the oxygen proportion, for instance, would terminate all life on Earth within only a few thousand years...

Independently of its meaning and the opinions we may have about it, "Gaia" exists as a global, permanent life-supporting homeostatic system, and our mere existence is the proof.

Exceptions to the rule

"Exceptions to the rule"

Watercolor on paper, 9 Aug. 2005

We are all exceptional. Every event in the Universe is exceptional and unique.

We need to name and label things for reasoning, but those labels are only in our minds. They are practical and useful, but they can be misleading mental illusions, artificial rational mirages.

The drama comes when we trust and follow the labelled reality; Then we are mistaken, and the illusions overlap our genuine, all-important living reality. Mistakes and entropy then appear, turning flesh hearts into stone.

We are in this world, but we do not belong to it. Stones do.

Magic Stones

"Magic Stones"

Watercolor on paper, 6 Aug. 2005

Stones are like little planets- each one is different, have different textures, personality. Most are millions of years old. Nothing else around us will remain in 10 million years from now, except the very same stones.

Deconstructed dawn

"Deconstructed dawn"

Watercolor on paper, 28 Mar 2013

I liked the idea of showing the energy of the sun influencing all that it touches, bringing around life and movement. Sun, planets and stars are very present in my paintings, as they form the very basic structure of the Universe, while we humans are in the other end of time and complexity.  I feel though a strong bond between both.

La Belle Ferronière

Version of "La Belle Ferronière", by L. Da Vinci

Pencil on paper, 2009

One of the most beautiful portraits ever made. Some experts believe that this lady is the same one portrayed as the "Mona Lisa".
